What a great weekend and a great result. Over the weekend of 2-4 October the scouts entered two teams into the Bispham Hall Chariot Race. The annual event is held over a 1 km course round the camp site and over a number of obstacles, including crossing the murky lake. We entered two teams. The second team did really well finishing 28th out of 63 teams and narrowly missing the top twenty run off on the Sunday morning. The A team however with a time of 9 minutes 54 seconds qualified comfortably for thr run off. On the Sunday morning they excelled themselves taking a miniute if their time on Saturday and finished 5th overall. A brilliant result and the best we have had in the ten years we have entered. Well, well, well - the summer camp happened over the weekend of 3/4/5 July - and boy did it happen! The theme was Back To The Future with a smattering of Back to Basics - the teams were competing across 16 challenges over the weekend including backwards cooking, rocket launching, nature quiz, map reading, tower building, tent pitching - and of course entertaining the squad around the camp fire on Saturday evening. It really was a great weekend, and thanks must go to Clive and all the other leaders and helpers who put in a lot of work to make it such a great time for the kids as well as the adults. Photos and scores below - congratulations to Team E as the overall winner!

Matthew Calderbank, a pilot from Flybe, visited the Beavers in April to talk about what it is like to be a pilot and fly aeroplanes. All the Beavers loved it and of course it fired their imaginations - Buzz had a job in tearing the boys away from Matthew at hometime! The Beavers were working towards their Air Activities badge. In September the scout sections entered two teams of four lads into the district Omega survival camp at Middlewood Scout Camp. The camp is run every two years and the boys have to build themselves a shelter and sleep in it overnight. The weekend is run as a competition with the teams gaining marks for the constuction of their shelter, the use of natural materials and the addition of creature comforts. The teams also have to cook themselves a meal without utensils from given indredients.
During the weekend the teams are also given survival tips and shown how to aquire "Food for Free" form the countryside. The highlight of the weekend is a demonstration of how to skin a rabbit or gut a fish.
Sixteen teams entered this year's competition and our teams excelled themselves finishing 1st and 2nd. Well done to all the lads who took part. They all had a great weekend and achieved a fantastic result. Click Here for the photos...
