Scout Section

Are you between 10½ and 14? Fed up with computer games and repeats on television? Do you like outdoor activities and having fun with like minded people? Would you like to learn new skills and make new friends? Our aim is to help to prepare young people for life by developing skills and building confidence and self reliance. We try and to combine a mixture of traditional outdoor activities and skills with contemporary activities that appeal to children in the 21st century.

On a troop night we cover a wide range of activities and challenges, from playing games to cooking a three course meal for 40-50 invited guests, from boiling water on a piece of paper to building and racing chariots. The scouts are split into patrols of 5-7 and work together in these patrols for most of the tasks and games. This encourages team work and leadership.

A typical troop meeting would be:

  • Flag break
  • Game - either a team game, one on one or individual challenges
  • Short Challenge - testing lateral thinking and problem solving
  • Skills training or group learning
  • Flag down
Activities we have taken part in over the past few years include:
  • Survival camp
  • Chariot race
  • Manchester velodrome
  • Climbing
  • Windsurfing
  • Dragon Boat Racing
  • Scuba Diving
  • Circus skills
  • Incident Hikes
  • Sleeping out in cardboard city.
  • Karate
  • Golf driving range
  • Plus many more....
